For too long men have been relegated to the side-lines of fertility treatment. Dr John Sullivan, Senior Registrar in Urology, St James’ Hospital Dublin and Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, joins us to explore what advances are needed to provide equality of care for men and women wanting to start a family.
Dr Sullivan was born in Dublin and trained and graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 2009. He subsequently undertook surgical house officer training in Dublin and was awarded Membership of the College in 2011. After this, he travelled to the United States and completed a 2-year research fellowship in Men’s sexual health at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, at the time completing a research MD. Dr Sullivan then remained in New York to complete his urological surgery training, with American Board of Urology certification. Last year, Dr Sullivan spent a year with Drs Larry Lipshultz and Mohit Khera in Baylor College of Medicine, Houston as a fellow in Male Reproductive Medicine and Surgery. He since has moved home to Dublin and will commence Male Infertility practice in the Summer of 2022 after recently being awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons.
