What’s the difference between Sperm DNA Testing & Semen Analysis?
Sperm DNA fragmentation (SDF) damage provides more information about a man’s fertility than semen analysis alone. Many men who have a normal semen analysis result cannot get their partner pregnant, while lots of men with an abnormal semen analysis result do conceive naturally.
Research shows that 40 percent of the men attending fertility clinics who had a normal semen analysis result, also had a high sperm DNA damage result using our Exact® test. Men with high sperm DNA fragmentation damage:
- are less likely to get their partner pregnant
- have double the risk of miscarriage
- are less likely to be successful with fertility treatment, such as IVF
